Back on the Green Blog

Posted by admin on 30 Oct 2008 | Tagged as: Uncategorized

After an absence of several months due to family illness, I am ready to resume the efforts for a green and safer environment for all.  I have received several comments that are deeply appreciated.  They tell me that others care about our world and the future of all.

Fall is here and of course with Fall comes the leaves!!  Remember that there are many ways to harness the value of them by mulching, composting and returning them to the garden and flower beds in the Spring.

Hope that everyone is into using green shopping bags by now.  They are readily available at all grocery stores, and they are probably the single greatest contributor to the elimination of those nasty plastic bags.

Please blog me so that I know that you still care and still have ideas for us all.

Happy life.

Summer Green

Posted by admin on 13 Jul 2008 | Tagged as: green thoughts

Summer time and the living is easy.  This is the best time of year to observe the fruits of all our collective green efforts.  Now is the time to see the clearness of the beach water and the white sand.  Now is the time to take a summer trip to the national forests and to share family fun in the green we have preserved.  The wildlife also thanks us for our efforts.  They survive because of the wise choices we make every time we  dispose of trash properly and use  less energy  that creates  pollution.  The future generations are entitled to enjoy these natural treasures also.  When we turn off a light not being used or when we recycle waste and reduce our carbon footprint we are granting that assurance to those to come.

Don’t take green living lightly.  The smallest changes in a lifestyle that reduces waste and pollution will benefit the world.

Be Green Today

The purpose of this blog site is to encourage greener habits and attitudes.  Each one of us is capable of making small changes that combined will easily solve the greater global issues of the environment.  This can be done without the motives of political or monetary gain (isn’t that refreshing!).  Think more in terms of leaving a world a better place for those who must follow.

At the end of each day just take a quick inventory of what you have done to improve the quality of the planet.  It might be something like recycling some bottles at your home or using reusable bags at the grocery store or exchanging a conventional light bulb with a compact florescent.   Remember that anything we do is not insignificant when we realize that what we do can be contagious.  Once several people get plugged in, we are on the way to changing a society for the better.

Think of what you will do tomorrow to create a green habit. That night, check on your success.  Did you do what you set out to do?  Did you pass it on to someone?

Stay involved and be a green advocate.

Plastic is not cool!

Finally.  the grocery stores are getting on  board and taking  responsibility  to remove plastic bags.  One of the best options to come along has been the availability for  reusable  fabric-type sacks.  At the big chain in our area, the store offers these reusable sacks for 99 cents each.  The response has been great.

It is almost fashionable to be seen toting these bags around.  They seem to say, “Hey, I’m doing my part!”.

Whatever it takes.  Again, these are small changes from many that will have a tremendous cumulative affect.

Lets think of more.

After Earth Day-What Next?

Posted by admin on 23 Apr 2008 | Tagged as: Uncategorized

Now that there has been an official observation of greening the earth, what will be done next?  If you have been making an effort to change habits in small ways, then the answer is simply to maintain the lifestyle that you have created.  Enthusiasm is contagious.  The more others see that you are committed to  meaningful change, the more they will take inventory of their own habits.  To look at the global issues is important to develop a vision of the long term goals.  What is more important is to set small personal goals.  This approach not only breaks down the bigger issue into manageable parts,  but also  allows  us  to  measure the progress of our own contributions.  There is much at stake for all of us, but in particular, those who will need the earth next.

Earth Day, 2008–thoughts

Posted by admin on 21 Apr 2008 | Tagged as: Uncategorized

One day of the year when all the world seems to recognize that there are severe environmental issues that threaten many life forms.  As in the case of so many hot public issues like drunk driving and drug abuse, this same intensity must be applied continuously throughout the year.  To have one or two rallying points will only keep the momentum alive for the period of time that the celebrations occur.  To change human behavior and to assign responsibility for  a greener world we need to  live it and be reminded on an   ongoing  basis.  I believe that we should all concentrate on making small changes each day or week or month.   We should  live with the idea that even small changes by many will take care of the greater world issues.  The bigger picture becomes less overwhelming when broken down to manageable small change.  So save that freezer bag for one more use.  Change that conventional bulb for one of the compact florescences.  Use a little less water and have a  great Earth Day 2008!

A dramatic Green Approach

Check out this bolg site for some extreme, yet effective ways to live what I need to call “The ultimate green life”  I just scanned it briefly, but it seems to  exemplify all our ideas and more.  Now I’m not saying that everyone should adapt this lifestyle, just pick those ideas that may work for you.  By the way, does any of that style make sense to you?

Green Is In!

The Green Guy’s Thoughts

We are starting to gain momentum with thinking in terms of what is good for the environment.  When it gets to the point where it is a cocktail party topic, you know it has substance!
Ads for the leading cleaning products are emphasizing how their products are  “environmentally  friendly”.  Just be aware that we are about to be bombarded with new and grand statements about the benefits of established products and new kids on the block (and blog). The old, commonsense approach is still going to be the best advise.  Things like “less is better” and “it is easier to add more than trying to take some back  out” are  mainstays for  the smart green life.
Just remember that this environment is only on loan to us and that we have an obligation to pass it on in better order than we found it.  Others who come after us are entitled to a clean environment to live in.  Let’s be remembered for the good rather than the destructive.
On that somber note, lets move on.
Caring for the world and its resources can be a fun experience when built into our lifestyles.  It is just as easy to conserve as waste when habits are adopted.  The great byproduct of  an environmentally healthy lifestyle is the positive impact it will have on your personal budget.
The whole purpose of these ramblings is to keep the momentum alive.  Let me know that you are out there too.

Green Thoughts

One way to immediately have a green affect is to throw out all those traditional caustic cleaners that fill our homes. Items such a bleach, ammonia and chlorine solutions not only pollute the environment but also have long-term affects on the health of our families. Check on the proper way to dispose of them.  The city sanitation department can usually assist.
There are many new and safer ways to get the shine without the risk to health.
This is only the start. Over time, we can program ourselves to always ask the question: “Are there better choices that I could make for the sake of the environment?”
Most of the time the answer will always be “Yes!”
Let me know your thoughts on this. I know that I’m not alone.
